  • August 24, 2016
  • Unity Times

Mr M. A. Mahmud, SAN, lawyer of the member of the House of Representatives, representing Nengere/Potiskum Federal Constituency of Yobe state,Hon Sabo Garba has dismissed the allegation of certificate forgery levelled against the lawmaker adding that the allegation is the handiwork of his political opponents.
In a statement entitled, “Re-Evidence Emerges Sabo Garba of the House of Reps. Forged Academic Certificate” and made available exclusively to UNITY TIMES, yesterday, in Abuja, with other documents, he said the allegation which was published in an online medium was aimed at embarrassing Hon. Sabo Garba and exposing him to ridicule and contempt as well as undermining his reputation in office and of right thinking members of the society.

He noted that Hon. Sabo Garba contested for the Federal House of Representatives representing Nengere/Potiskum Federal Constituency against one Ali Yakubu after which he won the election. However the said Ali Yakubu who lost the election in a petition dated 18th April, 2015 challenged Hon. Sabo Garba’s victory.

He said during the course of the trial at the Election Petition Tribunal, series of investigation reports conducted by the Nigerian Police with respect to Hon. Sabo Garba’s eligibility to contest the
election based on the allegations of forgery and falsehood were tendered by the said Ali Yakubu.

The statement reads in part, “We wish to bring to the attention of the general public that the judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal for Yobe State presided over by Hon. Justice E. F. Ikponmwen attached to the publication has long been set aside by the Judgment of the Court
of Appeal delivered on 1st December, 2015 for failure of the Petitioner (Ali Yakubu) to prove the case of forgery against Hon. Sabo Garba.

“Sequel to the judgment of the Court of Appeal we unequivocally state that Hon. Sabo Garba’s Educational Certificates are genuine and were validly issued to him by the various institutions he attended and same has been confirmed by the various Police Investigation Report and the
Court of Appeal which is the final Court that determines all National Assembly Election Petition matters.

“We wish to clearly state that the content of the said article and all accompanying documents as published are misleading to the general public as they are not and do not present the true facts of the
issue.”New Doc 3
