The Abuja Office of The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), held her last monthly exercise on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

Speaking with journalists, the Acting Coordinator, NIMASA Abuja Zonal Office, Mrs. Moji Jimoh, charged its staff to engage in regular exercise, so as to enhance physical fitness, overall health, and to improve productivity. She noted that most of the health challenges people face today, can be prevented or managed better with constant exercise.

“It is a good development, we had one a few months ago and management made it a monthly exercise for staff and family members to keep fit, to be up and doing in their place of work.

“Health is wealth, that is the background to this, and we hope to make it a monthly affair for all staff.

“We urge everyone to buy into the scheme, and beyond making it monthly, it should be a daily affair for everybody. We are encouraging all staff and family members and even friends too, let us make exercise a daily affair”, she advised

Also speaking, the NIMASA Abuja Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Chika Chukwudi, said that the management of the agency is doing everything possible to ensure that the staff are all fit and strong to carry out the agency’s activities. She noted that the staff and their families were carried along this time to create closer bonding among families and also for the work of NIMASA to go on well.

According to her, “I can attest that we are all fit and are ready to do the job ahead of us. We appreciate the effort the management is making to see that the staff are fit and we say kudos to the Director General, Dakuku Peterside, who is doing everything possible to make sure that every staff is fit”.

Dr. Edidiong Udom, a medical Doctor who gave a talk on the benefits of exercising the body, noted that exercising helps the heart and also burns excess sugar that would have stored up in the body, adding that it is simply a way of servicing the body to function optimally.

“I tell people to exercise nothing less than three times in a week, but as a group, NIMASA is doing it every month and I applaud them for that because some people need that monthly push in order to habitually exercise,” he remarked.

Dr. Edidiong Udom who came as a resource person taught participants on how to exercise the eyes and advised people to form a habit of regular exercise no matter how little, “You don’t have to be hard on yourself, but it is good that everyone exercises their body, if not it will shut down. Exercise will help the organs and cells to work optimally”, he added.

The walk started from the Agency’s office in Maitama and terminated at the Millennium Park with excitement and refreshment.
