The truck, which was intercepted at the Gakem-Benue border in the state on Saturday was sent back to where it came from.

NAN reports that the truck was intercepted by the Commissioner for Youths and Skills acquisition Signor Idiege with a team of security operatives.

The Chairperson, Cross River COVID-19 Taskforce Betta Edu disclosed this in Calabar.

The Almajiri children were stopped while enforcing the ban on interstate movement at the border.

Betta said Idiegbe also sent an escort along with the trucks to make sure that it was not diverted to other routes.

“It is important for the federal government to support these people where they are rather than allow them to move from one part of the country to the other,” she said.

“Remember COVID-19 does not move but people move, so, if these people are coming from states that have the virus, of course, for us in Cross River, we do not want them here.

“That is the only way we can reduce the number that is building every day and contain the virus.”

A similar incident occurred five days ago after the border task force intercepted and sent five trucks with goods and almajiri children at the same border.

Cross River is one of the states that have yet to record COVID-19 case in Nigeria.
