Expert Canvasses Use of Information Van in Rural Areas to educate voters
  • March 7, 2023
  • Unity Times

A Bauchi-based public relations expert, Andee Iheme, has called for the deployment of information vans to sensitise the electorate in rural communities on voting procedure ahead of governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

He said public information van remains a critical tool to convey election-related and other behaviour changing messages to residents of hard-to-reach communities where radio or television signals cannot penetrate.

Iheme said this in Bauchi when he appeared in a forum on the use of public relations for healthy elections in Nigeria.

He said at the moment, Nigeria’s information media system is elitist which makes it difficult to reach the citizens in the villages, especially with information on new government policies and programmes.

Commenting on the role of public relations in the electoral process, he said public relations has a critical role in maintaining peaceful coexistence among the citizenry before, during, and after the election.

Mr Iheme said ahead of Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections, there is the need for INEC to address shortcomings experienced during the presidential and National Assembly elections to earn public confidence.
