  • March 7, 2023

Obong of Calabar, His Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu the V, has admonished the people of Efik kingdom and Igbo residents in Calabar and other parts of the state to live peacefully.

He made the appeal when Igbo leaders visited his palace yesterday in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The royal father expressed happiness over the visit of the Igbo leaders to the kingdom to join the Efik to celebrate what he described as a “thing which has brought joy to the kingdom.”

He called for mutual understanding; peaceful co-existence especially now that peace has returned to the kingdom notwithstanding what happened some months ago between him and a brother in the kingdom.

While lauding the Igbo for coming to show solidarity with the palace, he stressed that the skirmish which almost tore the throne apart some months ago was a normal thing that can happen between two sons who sometimes quarrel with each other.

“It has strengthened us; I am not ungrateful not to say thank you to those who stood up to say this would not happen. It was almost becoming a rubbish until one great man Mr Larry Williams stood up and offered himself to fight the matter.

“Again, when the boat was like almost capsizing, another daughter of ours Nella Andem-Rabana stood up and said this cannot happen.

“She and her team took up the matter without any price attached because she didn’t want the throne to be rubbished,” he said.

The royal father expressed displeasure over the sponsorship of some negative report in social media, to cast aspersion on the throne and called for caution so as not to disseminate fake news aimed at destabilising the throne.
