Muftwang Approves Suspension of Plateau 17 LG Chairmen, Councillors
  • June 2, 2023
  • Unity Times

Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang has approved the suspension of the 17 local government area Chairmen and councilors.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Gyang Bere, the governor’s Special Assistant (Media), the suspension was granted following a request from the House on June 1, 2023. The House had recommended the suspension of the seventeen local government area chairmen.

Governor Muftwang cited the chairmen’s failure to provide records of their income and expenditure to the House as the reason behind the suspension.

In his statement, he stated, “In the light of the foregoing, His Excellency hereby approves with immediate effect the suspension of the 17 Local Government Area Structures to pave the way for the investigation being carried out by the House.”

In light of the suspension, the governor has directed that all properties belonging to the local government areas be handed over to the directors of personnel management.

The decision to suspend the chairmen and their councillors came after the House, under the leadership of Speaker Hon. Nuhu Abok Ayuba, reached a unanimous conclusion during a plenary session.

The lawmakers deemed the chairmen’s refusal to submit their financial records for scrutiny unacceptable.

This conclusion was reached following a notice of motion presented to the Assembly by Hon. Ponfa Jingfa Tyem, the representative for Langtang North.
