Prioritise Road safety matters, Suberu urges Akpabio, Tajudeen

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) squadron leader and national coordinator of the Road Traffic and Vehicle Inspection Officers Mayors and a prominent civil society representative on road safety matters,  Yusuf John Suberu, has urged the new Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas to pay attention to road safety issues.

Suberu, who commended the duo over their emergence as the National Assembly (NASS) leaders, said their emergence represented a step in the right direction and underscores the significance of experience and federal character representation during this crucial phase of national rebirth.

He emphasised the importance of the South-South region and North West zone in Nigerian politics.

He believes that the emergence of leaders from both the upper and lower chambers will foster stability within the National Assembly.

However, he urged Senator Akpabio and Speaker Abbas to prioritize road safety initiatives, recognising the vital role of traffic in our daily lives.

Suberu stressed that road safety should be a fundamental component of the Senate and House of Representatives’ key motions and bills.

He said given that the sector is shared between the Road Safety Agency, Vehicle Inspection Officers, and volunteer organisations like his, legislative support is essential to achieving their goals.

He appealed to the 109 members of the Senate and the 360 members of the House of Representatives to address road safety matters, aiming to reduce accidents, minimize fatalities, and prevent casualties.

The civil society representative called on the Senate President and the Speaker of the House to empower their standing committees on road safety matters and foster collaboration with stakeholders.
