Abia State government has reverted to the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state from 7am to 10 am on the last Saturday of the month. This is unlike in the past when the exercise used to hold from 9am to 11am.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Kazie Uko, in a statement made available to newsmen in the state capital, Umuahia, said the directive was given by Governor Alex Otti on Monday.

“He gave the directive after a meeting with the head, Task Force on Emergency Clean-up of Aba and Umuahia, Ogbonnia Okereke, who briefed him on the success recorded so far in the three-week-old assignment,” the statement said.
“The decision to bring forward the sanitation exercise was informed by the need to bring a larger number of the populace to participate in cleaning their environment early enough before they leave home for the day’s activities.
“Otti also directed the task force to expedite action on its plan to engage private sector participants in the cleaning exercise, in order to conclude the assignment in good time and restore the two cities to an acceptable hygienic condition,” he added.
