Rasheed’s resignation came after approving the issuance of a provisional license to the third state-owned University in Kogi State. The new university is located at Kabba local government area of the state.

Presenting the letter of approval to Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello in Abuja, yesterday, Rasheed said the university would be the 62nd state government-owned university in the country.

Rasheed, therefore, notified the Joint and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) of the establishment of the institution.

He said, “On behalf of the commission, with effect from 26th June, 2023, Kogi State University Kabba has been recognised as the 62 state-owned university in the country.”

He described the new university as his last baby in the commission, having granted approvals to numerous universities in the country during his seven-year administration.

Earlier, Governor Bello said the bill to establish the university was sent to the Kogi State House of Assembly and it was passed into law.

The governor, who said there are mechanisms in place to establish the university, expressed hope that the first set of students would be admitted in the institution before his tenure expires.

He also said the establishment of the university is to satisfy the age long desire of the people in the region, saying that resources have been set aside to start the university immediately.
