A charity organisation known as Jennifer Etuh Foundation yesterday assisted about 1, 500 widows in Tula village of Kaltungo local government area of Gombe State with wrappers, toiletries and cash gifts of N10,000 each.

The programme manager of the foundation, George Etuh said the gesture was meant to bring succour to widows in the community as part of the foundation’s one week community outreach in the state.

According to him, the foundation also offered five days free medical outreach in the village which included free screenings and treatments for all ailments and surgeries such as hernia, dental and eye surgeries among others.

He said the foundation has also built a hospital tagged, ‘Jennifer Etuh Medical Centre, Tula’ which would be commissioned Monday.

“The tradition is that whenever we are commissioning a hospital anywhere, we do offer assistance and medical outreach to the people of the community. We are providing health interventions to Tula community because it is a hard-to-reach community and many of its residents are not mobile.

“We therefore deemed it good to provide them with hospital so that they can access health care services at their doorsteps. We urge them to take ownership of the project and maintain the facility for their own benefits,” he said.

While saying that the foundation was established in memory of a famous philanthropist late Mrs Jennifer Etuh who died three years ago with a view to sustaining her legacies, the programme manager stated that the organisation had so far built four hospitals in different geographical zones of the country.

In an interview, some beneficiaries, Madam Rebecca Samuel, Lydia Nuhu and Laraba Ayuba lauded the foundation for the charity extended to them in form of the clothes, toiletries and cash gifts saying the gesture would help their lives in this period of economic hardship in the nation.
