Gombe State governor Inuwa Yahaya has commissioned a hospital built in memory of a leading philanthropist, Mrs Jennifer Etuh, and named after her.

Governor Yahaya officially opened the fourth hospital by the Jennifer Etuh Foundation in Tula, Gombe State, on Monday.

The Foundation had built three other hospitals across the country.

Speaking at the occasion, Yahaya lauded the foundation for the gesture, saying it would augment the effort of the government to revamp health care services delivery.

The governor said his administration provided 114 primary health centres in 114 wards across the state and upgraded the state specialist hospital.

He tasked other philanthropists to emulate the foundation in order to augment the government in its desire to make life better for the citizenry.

The chairman of the foundation, Mr Thomas Etuh, explained that the hospital was built by the Foundation to give the people of the village, which is hard to reach, access to healthcare services at their doorsteps.

He said the foundation was established in 2020 in memory of his late wife, adding that her vision was to provide available, accessible and affordable world class health care services to women and children hence the decision by the foundation to build and donate the medical centre.

According to him, the foundation had constructed similar medical centres in Odu, Kogi State for the north central, in Kogoro, Kaduna State for the North West and another one in Ifewara, Osun State for the South West respectively.

In addition to that, the foundation chairman stated that the foundation had equally built skills acquisition centres in the geopolitical zones of the country and offered free medical outreaches.

“We are deeply indebted to God for his countless mercies and favours in our lives. My darling wife would have been celebrating her 49th birthday today. But God knows best. Nevertheless, we are here to commemorate her legacy.

“Before her passing, she gave very explicit and precise instructions of this vision which over the past two years have continuously become a reality,” he said.

This is just as he said the foundation had, since it was set up, intervened in the education and empowerment of women and girls from different walks of life with support ranging from school fees and finance for petty trade.

Also, the Emir of Tula, otherwise known as ‘Mai Tula’ Abubakar Buba Atare, in appreciation to the foundation conferred the traditional title of “Dan Amanan Tula” on Etuh.
