The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has taken over as party’s acting national chairman, replacing Abdullahi Adamu.

The APC after its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Monday formally confirmed the resignation of Adamu as the national chairman and that of Senator Iyiola Omisore as the party’s National Secretary.

Briefing reporters after the NWC meeting, Kyari said that in line with the constitution of the party, the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, will now serve as the acting National Secretary of the APC.

Adamu was absent from the NWC meeting on Monday while Omisore stormed out of the meeting which was held at the party secretariat in Abuja.

Kyari who took over from Adamu presided over the emergency National Working Committee meeting of the ruling party.

Adamu had only last week said that he has never had any rift with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said that he supported the former Senate president Ahmad Lawan in the APC presidential primaries, but won the February 25 presidential election for Tinubu.

According to him, he has always had a good working relationship with Tinubu since his election, noting that the president has always given him his full attention each time they met.

Adamu said he would be willing to disagree with the president on any matter because there’s freedom of speech in the country, explaining that the so-called altercation with the president remains a creation of the media.
