Subsidy Removal: Katsina Govt Forms C’ttees On Grains Distribution
  • August 4, 2023
  • Unity Times

Katsina State government has formed ad-hoc committees to supervise the distribution of grains and fertiliser to alleviate the prevailing hardship in the state due to the fuel subsidy removal.

The commissioner for finance, Alhaji Bashir Tanimu Gambo, told journalists that it was one of the resolutions of the maiden State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Government House, Katsina.

Gambo said the committees would be formed at the local government and ward levels of the state to ensure that the food items get to the less privileged persons across the state.

The committee at the local government level would be chaired by council chairmen while members of the state House of Assembly representing their councils, district heads and representatives of the Izala and Tariqa religious sects would serve as members.

He said at ward levels, the committee would have the councillor from the community as chairman, while the village head and representatives of the two Islamic sects would serve as members.

The commissioner said the food items and farm inputs which included rice, maize and fertiliser would be purchased from the federal government to cushion the suffering induced by the fuel subsidy removal.

“The Katsina State government will bear the cost of conveying the food commodities to various distribution points across the state,” he said.
