The arraignment of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele on Thursday on a 20-count charge of illegal procurement was however stalled due to the absence of the first and second defendants who are said to be indisposed.

Following an application for adjournment, the Presiding Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT high court in Maitama adjourned the matter to August 23, 2023.
Emefiele who did not want his face captured as the journalists struggled to have him on camera was brought in from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) where he has been since he was suspended from office on June 9, 2023.
He appeared in a blue kaftan.
If convicted, Emefiele may be sentenced to five years imprisonment without an option of a fine.
