Kaduna to recruit additional 7000 youths to combat insecurity
  • August 22, 2023
  • Unity Times

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said his government plans to recruit 7000 youths to assist security agencies to fight insecurity.

Sani made the announcement during an interview on Channels TV on Monday in response to issues of banditry, kidnapping, and various security concerns in the north-west region of Nigeria.

The governor said he had always been an advocate for state police during his time as a senator, and he intends to start the recruitment process soon.

“As we are speaking right now, in the next week, we are going to recruit at least 7,000 youths who are going to be running our Kaduna State Vigilance Service,” Sani said.

He noted that the development was further necessitated by the fact that “security agencies are lacking the boots” in their bid to tackle insecurity.

“And of course, they need the support of our local vigilance service. As of today, we have only 2,000, but we are recruiting another 7,000 to make them 9,000,” he added.

According to him, the state commissioner of police, the director of DSS, and even the GOC are all involved in making sure that the state vigilance service has adequate training and that the state police college would train the newly recruited youths

Sani also noted that the state government is working with other stakeholders, including religious bodies, to ensure the state is rid of criminality.

He added that there are also discussions with other governors in the north to fine-tune ways of taming insecurity.

“As I am speaking with you, we are on the same page. We are trying our best to make sure we have a joint operation,” the governor said.
