Musawa debunks statement confirming NYSC membership
  • August 28, 2023

The minister of art, culture, and creative economy, Hannatu Musawa, has debunked a statement credited to her where she confirmed that she is currently observing the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Musawa on Monday debunked the viral report through a statement signed by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation (FMINO) spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna.

Haruna in the statement said that the newly-appointed minister had not released any official statement regarding her serving Nigeria as a Youth Corps member.

“The attention of Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Hon. Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, has been drawn to a recently circulating piece titled: MY PERSONAL STATEMENT ON MY NYSC STATUS AS A SERVING MINISTER,” Haruna said.

“The piece is inaccurately associated with her in relation to the current NYSC discussion.

“The Hon. Minister clarifies that she has not released any official statement regarding the aforementioned matter and kindly asks the public to be cautious of unverified information.

“I deeply value and appreciate the support, solidarity, and understanding of Nigerians in these times. For clarity, I wish to state that I have not issued any statement on the current issue.”

It was widely published in the media on Sunday that Musawa had confirmed her status as currently undergoing the NYSC scheme.

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had also confirmed that the minister of art is a serving corps member.

“Yes she is a serving corp member,” NYSC spokesman, Eddy Megwa told TheCable, a digital media outfit.

Musawa was part of the 45 ministers sworn in as members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by President Bola Tinubu last week Monday.
