The governor, who alleged compromise by security agency in crisis in the state, accused them of shooting at him on his way to the state assembly complex to ascertain the level of damage the fire incident has caused and regretted the action of the masterminds of the unwarranted attacks.
“It is unfortunate that a public facility such as the Rivers State House of Assembly chambers, a facility that we used taxpayer money to build, would be destroyed for selfish reasons, just to please somebody, is unfortunate.
“I’m calling on the security agencies; from what I’m seeing, the security agencies have even been compromised; they were shooting teargas at me directly.
“I don’t have anything against anybody and I don’t know where this is coming from, let it be put on record, whoever masterminded this thing would face the full weight of the law.
“I heard that some lawmakers sat here and did rubbish, that is purely rubbish, when there is a problem and you say you are doing something, what are you doing. I am the chief security officer, I’m the head of the government, I am the person that is supposed to come and declare the place and create an alternative place for the assembly to sit.”
The burning of the state assembly complex, we gathered was carried out by some thugs in a white Hilux van who invaded the assembly complex at about 10.00pm Sunday and disarmed the security personnel on duty before carrying out the act.
The Rivers State House Assembly complex, is situated at Moscow Road, opposite the Headquarters of the State Police Command, Port Harcourt.
