IGP Appoints New CP for Rivers, Redeploys Senior Police Officers
  • November 9, 2023
  • Unity Times

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Olatunji Disu as the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers State.

IGP Egbetokun has also ordered the immediate redeployment of seven senior police officers to lead different commands as part of the ongoing measures towards strengthening security, tackling violent crimes, and enhancing optimal coordination of police operations across Nigeria.

The seven officers include CP George Chuku as commissioner for BNS Command, CP Ahmed Tijani to Jigawa Command, CP Dan Shawulu to Niger Command, CP Usman Hayatu to GBS Command, CP Danjuma Aboki to IMS Command, and CP Isyaku Muhammed to OSS Command, among others.

The appointment of Disu comes just a week after Rivers State Governor, Siminalaye Fubara, accused CP Nwonyi Emeka of partisan interest in the political crisis that rocked the state recently.

Fubara had accused some police officers of attempting to kill him when he went to access the level of damage done to the State House of Assembly following an explosion that greatly affected the hallowed chambers.

Meanwhile, a dispatch signal from the Force Headquarters in Abuja said the redeployment takes immediate effect.

Egbetokun charged the new CPs to demonstrate professional competence in the new offices they have been assigned to lead across the country.
