The commission’s head of voter education and publicity in Bayelsa State, Wilfred Igofah, cited “challenges in the collation of results in Brass and Southern Ijaw” local government areas.

The decision to adjourn the collation was made after results from six of the eight local government areas in the state were presented. The remaining two local government areas, Brass and Southern Ijaw, are yet to have their results compiled and presented.

The six local government areas for which results have been collated are Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor.

In five of these LGAs, the incumbent governor, Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has taken the lead. However, in one LGA, Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious.

Based on the results from the six LGAs declared, Diri, the incumbent governor, is seeking re-election and has garnered a total of 137,909 votes from the six LGAs so far declared.

Sylva, the APC candidate who was a former governor of Bayelsa State, is seeking to reclaim his former position.
