Kano guber: NNPP protests at EU, ECOWAS, Canada, others
  • November 30, 2023
  • Unity Times

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has called on President Bola Tinubu, world leaders, former presidents, heads of state, international organisations, and heads of local and international security agencies over what it described as the miscarriage of justice in Kano State.

They said that all promoters of justice must at this time counsel the Nigerian judiciary, specifically the Supreme Court, with respect to the Kano State governorship seat.

The NNPP, which lodged a protest at the embassies of the European Union, ECOWAS, and Canada, among others, alleged clandestine moves to truncate the will of the majority of the people of Kano State.

Abba Kabir Yusuf contested and won the Kano State governorship election on the platform of the NNPP. The party also won two senatorial seats, 19 Federal House of Representatives seats, and 30 state assembly seats across the country.

However, he was sacked by the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal and the Appeal Court in two separate contentious judgements.

But the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgement that circulated online showed that the Appeal Court judgement was at variance with the judgement read by the three-man justices of the Appeal Court.

The circulated CTC showed clearly that the judgement is in favour of the NNPP.

“We are not taking this development lightly and will do anything within the ambit of the law to take what the entire world knows is ours,” NNPP said in a protest letter signed by Abba Kawu Ali, its acting national chairman.

The party said: “We, therefore, urge the Supreme Court to embrace substantial justice by restoring the mandate of the people of Kano State.

“The security situation today in Kano State has become unpredictable. Nonetheless, we are not oblivious to the fact that this attempt to forcefully hijack the Kano people’s mandate in the manner of a gangster is a ploy to destabilise Kano State and the entire Northern Region.

“We hasten to put on record this moment for global leaders that this is an ill-advised move whose consequences will reverberate not only in Nigeria but also in Africa and the whole world.

“The deliberate hijacking of a people’s mandate in Kano will no doubt have consequences politically, economically, and socially, especially in light of its humanitarian repercussions.”
