Sunday Igboho returns back to Ibadan
  • February 23, 2024
  • Unity Times

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, will return to his Soka, Ibadan, residence on Saturday.

The return, which could be termed a homecoming, will be the first time the activist has visited the residence in the last three years.

It was gathered that the activist will be at the residence to play host to top dignitaries and his supporters in the concluding ceremony of the burial of his late mother.

Igboho fled the country following the deadly attack on his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital city, on July 1, 2021.

It was gathered that he flew in from Germany where he had been after a Beninese Court granted him bail last year.

He narrowly escaped from Ibadan, in the early hours of July 1, 2021, when a combined team of Department of State Security and Nigeria Army personnel invaded his house located at Soka in Ibadan, killing two persons, while 13 of his supporters were arrested, arraigned and later granted bail by a Federal High Court of Abuja Division, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu.

Confirming his arrival in the country when contacted, the spokesman for the activist, Olayomi Koiki, said the agitator is in the country for the burial of his mother, who died last year.

He said: “It is true that he is back in the country. He came back on Wednesday purposely for the burial ceremony of his mother. He has to come back home to bury his mother, who passed on last year and Thursday was her wake keep and Friday is the burial ceremony in Igboho before he moves to Ibadan for the entertainment of guests on Saturday.

“I can tell you that all arrangements have been perfected to give his mother a befitting burial, and eminent Nigerians and dignitaries from all walks of life are billed to attend the burial.”

It remains unclear, however, if the activist will make the return permanent to continue his agitation or if he will return to his new base in Germany after the ceremony.
