Edo govt issues 30, 000 Certificates Of Occupancy In 2 Years
  • March 22, 2024
  • Unity Times

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, said his government has issued almost 30, 000 certificates of occupancy (Cs of O) to about 30, 000 prospective home owners in Edo State within two years, against a total of around 2000 Cs of O issued before his coming in as governor of the state.

Obaseki, who said this yesterday while delivering his speech at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) as well as the unveiling of the real estate market report, which took place in Abuja, also said his administration was able to restore sanity to the built environment largely due to working in partnership with professional bodies such as NIESV, who he said tries to ensure that standards are maintained and  builders act professionally to deliver the best of services.

The governor, who was the special guest of honour at the event, also noted that the nation is contending with a number of issues in the built environment, which he said include high cost of building materials, building collapses, and real estate scams among others and called on professional organisations in the sector to save the nation by providing professional guide and maintain global standards.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the NIESV, Johnbull Amayaevbo, said the institute had put a great premium on having a visible presence in the Federal Capital Territory to further assist in guiding the nation’s real-sector industry, which he said has grown tremendously over the years.

He said the Institute had been faithful partners in the country’s economic journey, housing and infrastructural development and had been instrumental in laying the parameters for professional and ethical conduct in the built sector.

“The Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers has remained, through thick and thin, a professional organization that believes completely in the strength, potential, and future of the Nigerian state. We have been faithful partners for decades in this country’s economic journey, housing, and infrastructure development, and we are immensely proud of our contributions and impact on the nation’s development.

“NIESV’s role in the built sector involves laying parameters for professional and ethical conduct, healthy competition, and continuous professional development. NIESV has helped to guide the evolution of real sector industry that has grown to become the envy of the continent,” he said.
