  • March 26, 2024
  • Unity Times

Over 60,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in various camps in Cross River State need urgent assistance, the Red Cross Society has said.

They were displaced by communal conflicts. A representative of the Red Cross Society in the state, Dr Asuquo Enoch, spoke yesterday on their plight when he addressed participants during a road walk to mark the World Tuberculosis Day in Calabar, the state capital. Asuquo said the IDPs live in clusters in the camps and were in dire need of intervention.

Also speaking during the campaign and street walk against tuberculosis infection, a representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Juliet Ubom, said the body, which had been on the forefront of tackling TB, would continue with the provision of technical support. She said WHO at the moment is championing immunisation across the state.

In her remark, the state coordinator of Breakthrough Action, Pascaline Edim, said the group would intensify its support for the fight against tuberculosis in the state. “We are here to support and will continue to support the state to win the fight against tuberculosis,” she said.
