Eyewitnesses said the officer showed no signs of illness when the journey commenced, but later complained of chest pain before succumbing to his condition.
In its response, NRC management asserted the presence of well-trained medical personnel and equipped facilities onboard their trains.
It said despite efforts by onboard medical staff and a passenger who was a medical practitioner, they were unable to save the officer.
NRC, through its deputy director of public relations, Yakub Mahmoud, expressed condolences and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety.
The corporation assured the public of its preparedness to address medical emergencies promptly.
“This incident highlights the necessity of adequate medical support in public transportation systems and the ongoing need for improvement in emergency response protocols,” it said.
