Former aviation minister Osita Chidoka quits PDP
  • November 30, 2024
  • Unity Times

Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation Chief Osita Chidoka has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chidoka, also a former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, announced his resignation in a letter dated 29th November 2024, which was submitted to the PDP Ward Chairman in his Obosi community, Anambra State.

The former minister stated that he was leaving the PDP with immense respect and gratitude, while reaffirming his commitment to good governance, national unity, and honest public service.

Chidoka disclosed that he would now focus on his Non-Governmental Organisation, the Athena Centre, which is dedicated to enhancing public policy and leadership across Nigeria.

The letter read:

“As I step away from active partisan politics, I remain committed to good governance, national unity, and evidence-based and honest public service. I look forward to a future where I can once again contribute directly to the political landscape, aligned with the values I hold dear.

“I leave the PDP with immense respect and gratitude and wish the party every success as it continues to reposition itself as a force for positive change in Nigeria.

“I conclude with my lifelong mantra: our national aspiration of building a nation where no man is oppressed will be realised sooner rather than later. I remain hopeful of a renascent Nigeria, guided by the spirit of Naija—that shared space where ethnicity and religion do not impede our collective aspirations for a great nation.

“Thank you for your understanding and for the support I have received from you and the ward members over the years.”

There are, however, speculations that Chidoka may be considering joining the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that he is being considered as a potential running mate to Governor Charles Soludo in next year’s governorship election in the state. He is also rumoured to be a likely successor to Soludo in 2029, when power is expected to shift to Anambra Central, his home zone.
