Okoro I., Enugu

The founder and leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Barr. Ralph Uwazuruike, has described the Igbo political leadership as selfish and parochial.

The MASSOB leader stressed that the Igbo stakeholders are only interested in their selfish interests and personal pockets.

Barr. Uwazuruike revealed that this posture might deny them the presidency as those who go alone politically will eventually not get to their destination.

He re-echoed how Igbo was sidelined after forming the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 1999.

He highlighted that anyone championing for the unity of the country must adopt a holistic approach.

He said, “Remember, an Igbo man, such as Dr. Alex Ekwueme played prominent role in the formation of PDP, but they snatched it from him. Then, it was clear that an Igbo man would be the President of Nigeria. But in Jos, it was the Igbo who robbed themselves of that opportunity.

“The Igbo at that political event in Jos started speaking Hausa. The Igbo started sponsoring Olusegun Obasanjo against Alex Ekwueme.

“Let me tell you, the Igbo tribe is the most foolish tribe I have ever seen in the world. While the Yoruba embraced unity, the Igbo man was the person speaking other languages in Jos.

“The Igbo man was the one donating money against his own brother in Jos to another candidate. Is that a wise tribe? Then, who should I apologise to for using the word ‘foolish?’ Then what have we achieved from the PDP?

“For how many years have the Yoruba people used the PDP? Eight years. Now, when it was the turn of the South-East, they sent it to the South-South. The time has come for us to re-engineer and retool for political rejuvenation and sustainability.”
