Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has reiterated his no-nonsense approach to politics, stating that he does not belong to the class of politicians who pretend.

The outspoken ex-governor, who has recently been in a war of words with one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aide, Daniel Bwala, also—without mentioning names—slammed some politicians in the country as Nollywood actors.
El-Rufai made the remark in response to a Twitter user, Ira Habib, who praised the ex-governor for his authenticity after reading his book ‘Accidental Public Servant’. Habib expressed that no politician would include El-Rufai in their cabinet unless they were genuinely committed to Nigeria’s development.
In response, El-Rufai appreciated the praise but added, “Truly, I don’t know how to pretend. Being a Nollywood actor in governance is for some others, not some of us.”
This comment follows a recent statement by El-Rufai, where he expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming the party’s organs have been inactive for two years.
“I no longer recognise the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show; it’s a zero-man show,” he stated.
El-Rufai’s remarks have sparked controversy, with Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communications, urging him to abandon what he described as a “vengeance mission” and return to resolving his grievances diplomatically.
Bwala criticised El-Rufai’s comments as unpatriotic and noted that they might attract the attention of opposition forces.
