In a press statement issued in Benin City, the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Fred Itua, debunked the rumours, saying they were false and mischievous and intended to mislead the public.

He called on the general public to ignore the rumours, as they are the handiwork of mischief makers who envy Monday Okpebholo administration’s remarkable successes since coming on board in November 2024.

Reaffirming Okpebholo’s commitment to workers’ welfare in Edo State, he clarified that no government worker in the state, including local government workers, is owed any salary, as all payments, including that of January 2025, have been paid.

“As a result of this total commitment, the state government has continued to pay the salaries of local government workers without fail since assuming office.

“This remarkable feat is all the more impressive, considering the setbacks in allocation payments that the State has faced due to the ongoing legal crisis between the State and the embattled local government chairmen.

“Governor Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach in ensuring that no Edo worker, irrespective of status, is made to pass through undue hardship, is a testament to his zeal for workers’ welfare.”
