Trump cancels grant for study on menstrual cycles in transgender men
  • March 9, 2025
  • Unity Times

The administration of United States President, Donald Trump, has canceled a $600,000 federal grant intended to fund a study on menstrual cycles in transgender men.

According to public records on USAspending.gov, the grant had been awarded to Southern University Agricultural & Mechanical College in Louisiana and was scheduled to remain active until April 2027.

“The first occurrence of menstruation occurs at approximately 12 years of age and ends with menopause at roughly 51 years of age,” the grant description states. “A woman will have a monthly menstrual cycle for about 40 years of her life, averaging to about 450 periods over the course of her lifetime.”

“It is also important to recognize that transgender men and people with masculine gender identities, intersex and non-binary persons may also menstruate,” the description adds. “At any given moment, about 26% of the world’s population is menstruating.”

The study aimed to “address growing concerns” surrounding menstruation, including the potential use of natural fibres such as hemp in feminine hygiene products.

The funding had drawn scrutiny from the conservative nonprofit American Principles Project, which has identified more than 340 grants issued under the Biden administration, totaling over $128 million, to institutions such as colleges and hospitals.

Reacting to the development on Friday, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who announced the cancellation of the study grant in a post on X, described it as insanity.

She added that the restoration of the United States is currently underway, with similar initiatives set to be canceled by Trump’s administration.

She tweeted, “🚨CANCELLED: $600,000 grant to study ‘menstrual cycles in transgender men’

“Keep sending us tips. THANK YOU, @approject! The insanity is ending and the restoration of America is underway. 🇺🇸💪❤️”
