The meeting happened less than a week after Fubara said he was putting aside his pride and personal interests to bring peace back to Rivers State.

The details of what the president and Fubara discussed during their meeting have not been made public yet.

Recall, Fubara has recently said he was trying to make peace with Nyesom Wike, his predecessor, who is now the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Fubara called Wike his “boss.”

“We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing,” he had said.

“What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you — the state’s interest is paramount.”

The Rivers State political crisis started as a fight for power between Fubara and Wike shortly after Fubara became governor.

The crisis got worse and caused a serious split within the Rivers State House of Assembly. There were even attempts to remove Fubara from office through impeachment.

On 18th March, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State because of the ongoing political crisis.

He also suspended Fubara, Ngozi Odu (his deputy), and all members of the Rivers Assembly for six months.

The president appointed Ibok-Ette Ibas, a retired naval chief, to run the state as sole administrator during this period.
