2027: Coalition Sets to Name New Platform for election
  • June 10, 2025
  • Unity Times

The Opposition Coalition is expected to announce a new political platform before the end of the month to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

This development was disclosed by a former APC governorship candidate in Katsina State, who revealed that discussions involving key political heavyweights are progressing steadily.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former Transport Minister Chibuike Amechi are said to be at the forefront of the emerging coalition.

“We need a reliable, trusted platform to beat this government and by the grace of God, by the end of this month, the leadership will conclude on which platform to use,” said Inuwa, speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina convened to brief supporters on the status of the alliance.

Inuwa, who previously served as Secretary to the Katsina State Government, described the coalition as a necessary step in the interest of national development.

“The decision to join forces by former Vice President, former governors Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai-led coalition with other political parties is in the best interest of Nigeria,” he said. “We want to move forward in all aspects of human development as a nation.”

He criticized the current state of national leadership, lamenting Nigeria’s diminishing influence on the continent.

“This is because Nigeria has no leadership, even as the giant of Africa. There is no gainsaying that our country has lost touch with other countries in Africa,” he said.

Inuwa urged continued prayers for the success of the coalition, calling on supporters to remain steadfast amid political uncertainty. He also expressed disapproval of recent defections to the APC, describing them as misguided.

“Those involved were leaving the frying pan to the fire,” he said.

Drawing parallels between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Inuwa noted that internal democracy remains elusive in both parties.

“What has happened in the APC is the same thing that happened in PDP, especially during congresses. Local government elections were supposedly held here in Katsina State, and only those whom the government wanted to contest were given forms. So it is going to be the same in all the elections,” he stated.
