The NEC meeting is coming barely 48 hours after a rival NEC session was held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Present at the Abure-led meeting were key figures including factional National Chairman, Julius Abure; National Secretary, Umar Farouk; National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh; and National Youth Leader, Ken Ahanotu.
Also in attendance was the party’s former vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, alongside Labour Party Chairmen from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Senator Nenadi Usman-led NEC meeting held on Friday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, ratified the appointments of Senator Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Chairman and Secretary of an interim National Committee, respectively.
The decisions from that meeting were detailed in a communiqué released at the end of the session, raising fresh concerns about legitimacy and party cohesion.
Significantly, the communiqué from the Transcorp Hilton meeting bore the signatures of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti; his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu; and Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Sylvester Ejiofor.
Also endorsing the resolutions were representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
