Fans took to social media to celebrate the win, while urging the team to stay focused ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On his X handle, President Tinubu congratulated them, saying, “This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure a qualification. Super Eagles, keep soaring… The nation stands with you. Soar!

On X, Atiku Abubakar expressed his pride, writing, “Proud of the @NGSuperEagles for giving Nigeria a fighting chance in the 2026 World Cup Africa playoff final.—AA”

Peter Obi, who had travelled from Lagos to Abuja for the Guild of Editors event before heading to Anambra, said he ensured he caught the match despite his busy schedule. He congratulated the team, describing their performance as a reminder of the importance of investing in talent and supporting institutions.

“Today, the Super Eagles have made us proud. I celebrate them, the coaching crew, and every Nigerian who believes in a stronger, more united Nigeria. Well done, Eagles. Keep soaring. –PO,” Obi added.

Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar also commended the team, praising their discipline and composure, “Congratulations to our national team @NGSuperEagles on their stunning 4–1 comeback victory over Gabon to secure a place in the final playoff. Well done to the team for staying disciplined and finishing strong.”
