Kano Assembly Denies Rumours Of Deputy Governor’s Impeachment over defection

The Kano State House of Assembly has denied claims that it planned to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

The House spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, told journalists that the reports were “unfounded and without any basis.”

“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the Deputy Governor,” Shawai said, adding that the allegations were false and appeared aimed at creating unnecessary tension in the state.

He affirmed that the Deputy Governor continued to serve with the legislature’s full support.

The spokesperson added that the House remained focused on its legislative duties and oversight functions rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres.

“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours,” he added.

The speculations on the Deputy Governor’s political future intensified following the recent defection of his principal, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside 22 members of the State Assembly and 44 local government chairmen, from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, the deputy governor has maintained his membership of the NNPP and openly expressed loyalty to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
