Court discharges, acquits Abba Kyari over assets non-declaration Case

The Federal High Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja has discharged and acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and his two brothers in a 23-count charge filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged non-declaration of assets.

Delivering judgment, James Omotosho ruled that the prosecution failed to present credible and sufficient evidence to sustain the allegations.

The court described the case as “watery,” noting that no convincing proof was provided linking Kyari to the disputed properties located in Abuja, Maiduguri, or other parts of Borno State.

Justice Omotosho also criticized the inclusion of Kyari’s brothers in the conspiracy charge, describing the action as unsubstantiated and made in bad faith.

However, the court clarified that the ruling applies strictly to the asset declaration allegations.

Other pending matters involving Kyari, including drug-related charges, remain before the court for determination.
