Trump, Xi Set for High-Stakes Beijing Summit

United States President Donald Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing this week in what analysts describe as one of the most critical diplomatic engagements of the year.

The summit, scheduled for May 13 to 15, comes amid worsening tensions between both global powers over trade, technology restrictions and growing instability in the Middle East.

Observers say discussions are likely to focus heavily on fears of a prolonged economic confrontation between Washington and Beijing, as well as the global implications of the Iran crisis.

Financial markets are closely monitoring the talks, with investors worried that further deterioration in U.S.-China relations could trigger new shocks in global supply chains and energy markets.

Diplomatic sources say both countries are under pressure to stabilise relations as inflation and economic uncertainty continue affecting economies worldwide.
