Former Governor of Kaduna State under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mukhtar Yero has resigned his membership of the party.
His resignation was contained in a letter he personally signed and addressed to his ward chairman, Kaura ward, Zaria Local Government dated 29th September 2023.

Though no reason was given in the letter over his resignation, the former Governor stated “With gratitude to Almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), 30th September 2023.
“In view of this, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 30th September 2023.
“Enclosed herewith, is my party membership card dully returned, he said.
The former governor who has been a member of the party for the past two decades, was a former deputy governor of the state between (2010-2012).
Following the death of Yakowa in the ill-fated plane crash, Yero was sworn in as governor between 2012 and 2015.
He completed Yakowa’s term and he contested in 2015 before losing to Nasiru Elrufai during the 2015 governorship election.
Twice, Yero attempted to clinch his party’s gubernatorial ticket in 2019 and 2023 but was not lucky.
