Eight years after completing his second tenure as governor of Kano State, the presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, yesterday, step his foot again into the Kano Government House.

Kwankwaso, who was equally prevented from visiting Kano for about three years while serving as Senator representing Kano central metropolis owing to a strained relationship between him and his erstwhile political godson and former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, made a triumphant entrance amidst chants from huge jubilant loyalists.

Kwankwaso, joined by his presidential running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, and other prominent personalities, was at the government house to witness the colourful reception of the state sponsored mass wedding of 3,600 grooms and brides.

The Kwankwasiyya leader applauded Kano state government for sustaining his legacy aimed at preserving social cohesion and religious obligations for couples who find it difficult to consummate their relationship.

Reminding the couples to consider the opportunity as part of religious obligation, Kwankwaso, who stood as surety bond for the couples, cautioned them to keep their new marriage from the tempting world of social media.

Earlier, the special guest and Kwankwaso’s presidential running-mate at the February presidential election, Bishop Idahosa applauded the NNPP government for capturing Christian residents among beneficiaries of the state sponsored mass wedding.

The Bishop posited that the kind gesture of the state government has further demonstrated its capacity for tolerance and compassion that is devoid of religion and ethnic sentiments. He solicited divine intervention for victory of Gov. Abba Kabiru Yusuf at the Governorship election appeal.

On his part, Gov. Yusuf expressed his fulfilment on the execution of the Mass Wedding, which he said was part of his campaign promises. Governor Yusuf said his administration has taken full responsibility of procurement of wedding provisions, including furniture, dowries, traditional attires and grant of N20,000 to each couple as seed for small scale business.

Director General Kano Hisbah Board Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa explained that a total of 1,536 couples who secured clean bill of health took part in the first batch while 2,500 couples were exempted for medical challenges.
