President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a term of five years each, subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
The appointments, according to a release issued on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, were in line with the powers vested in the President by Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022).

The new RECs include Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne, Edo State; Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, Ekiti State; Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji, Gombe State; Mr. Shehu Wahab, Kwara State; and Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, Lagos State.
Others are Mr. Aminu Kasimu Idris, Nasarawa; Prof. Mohammed Yalwa, Niger State; Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, Rivers State; Mr. Isma’ila Kaura Moyi, ZamfaraState;e and Mr. Etekamba Umoren, Akwa Ibom State.
President Tinubu expects the new appointees to abide by the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties, in accordance with his determination to facilitate the establishment of a transparent, fair, and conflict-free electoral conduct in Nigeria.
