We Won’t Conduct Census Manually-NPC Commissioner
  • November 2, 2023
  • Unity Times

The commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Joseph Shazin, has assured Nigerians that the proposed headcount census will be digitized.

Among others, this implies that all the data will be assembled and stored on computer devices as per the manual process in all the previous censuses.

Shazin stated this when he led officials of the commission on an advocacy and sensitisation visit to the Abuja chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

The meeting was held at the LEA Nomadic Primary School, Dutse Alhaji, where Shazin said it was part of the preparations for the forthcoming census to sensitize Fulani community leaders on the headcount.

He said NPC would intensify the sensitisation exercise as a result of challenges encountered during the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD), where some Fulani communities were not easily accessed.

He said the decision was reached to involve Fulani youths in the exercise in order to get the needed cooperation from the Fulani communities.

He said some Fulani youths who are computer literate have been recruited to be part of the exercise.

The NPC commissioner said the meeting was to also appeal to the Fulani leaders to allow people from the wards to be part of the census when the time comes.

The chairman of the MACBAN FCT chapter, Yahayah Isah, assured the commissioner that his message would be duly communicated to the Fulani communities.
