Corruption, GLOCCOLAC, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari, and the
judiciary, for again proving to Nigerians that anti-corruption fight is not
selective.

Speaking to Journalists in Abuja on Thursday December 12, as
part of activities to mark this year’s International Anti-corruption Day, the
leader of the group, Dr Nwandu Gabriel commend the Judiciary for rising up to
the occasion, “recall that a few days ago at this same venue, we challenged the
judiciary not to succumb to a reported pressure to abandon the trial of former
governor of Abia state Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu over the alleged fraud leveled
against him by the EFCC.
“We were then alarmed by the sudden change in the date for
judgment from December 2 to December 5. Today we want to commend the judiciary
for rising up to the occasion.
“The conviction of Senator Kalu, a chieftain of APC may have
also erased growing doubt in the mind of many Nigerians that President
Muhammadu Buhari anti-corruption war was selective”, the group said.
The groups calls for faster trial of corruption cases, and
the National Assembly to expedite passage of the bill for the creation of
Special courts to handle corruption matters in the country,
“Corruption cases should be given accelerated handling. We are
not happy that justice only came in the case of the trial of Senator Kalu after
12years. There are some other similar cases that have been in court for several
years and ‘nobody is doing anything about them’”
The group also advice the senator to resign, and allow the
people of Abia North to have a senator that will provide effective
representation in the red chamber, “We wish to advice the convicted chief whip
of the senate to honourably resign his seat as senator representing Abia North
senatorial district. It is morally wrong for him as a convict to still represent
a people from jail.
“we agree that he has the right to appeal the ruling of the
lower court, but we make bold to say here that morally its wrong for him to
remain the representative of Abia North. He cannot represent Nigerians from the
prison. We need not to tell him this, but if he indeed loves the people of Abia
North he should throw in the towel”, the group concluded.
