We’ll Respond fiercely to IPOB Killing of Soldiers In Abia – Military
  • May 31, 2024
  • Unity Times

The Nigerian military has vowed a fierce response to the killing of soldiers by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Abia State.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the Nigerian military would bring “overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.”

Buba’s reaction followed the reported killing of at least five soldiers by IPOB fighters at a checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area on Thursday, May 30, a day set aside by the group to mark Biafra Day in remembrance of the Nigerian Civil War.

While investigations are ongoing on the Abia attack, Buba said: “Overall, it must be reiterated that the lifeline of the terrorist is the people and this situation is no exemption.

“Winning the war without the support of the people is close to impossible. The IPOB capitalised on this to perpetrate attacks on the troops. The situation leaves more to be desired.

“Accordingly, it is absolutely imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against troops.

“The military would be fierce in its response. We would bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.”
