The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full-scale enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance Policy for motor vehicles, warning that defaulters will face legal penalties.

The enforcement, which took effect on February 1, 2025, follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has instructed officers to ensure strict compliance across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has given a directive for a full enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance Policy for motor vehicles from today, February 1, 2025,” said DSP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna.

According to Hassan, the crackdown is aimed at ensuring that all vehicle owners comply with the compulsory insurance policy, which serves to protect road users from liabilities arising from accidents involving insured vehicles.

“The Kaduna State Police Command urges all vehicle owners and motorists to ensure they possess valid Third-Party Insurance coverage as soon as possible. Defaulters will face appropriate penalties as stipulated by law,” he added.

Hassan emphasized that beyond legal compliance, the policy is designed to enhance road safety and reduce risks associated with uninsured accidents.

“We want to ensure that all vehicle owners and motorists are protected in case of an accident. The Third-Party Insurance Policy is mandatory, and we will ensure that everyone complies with it,” he stated.

The police command urged motorists to obtain valid insurance to avoid sanctions, as enforcement teams have already been deployed across the state to check compliance.
