Labour Party chieftain, Peter Obi, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan, in Abuja on Thursday.
In an update shared on X, Mr Obi wrote, “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”

While the purpose of the meeting remained unknown, it came amid growing speculations that Mr Jonathan might contest in the forthcoming presidential election as opposition parties prepare to wrest power from President Bola Tinubu.
The former president has been framed as a viable option from the South with the popularity to unseat Mr Tinubu in 2027. However, concerns have been raised about Mr Jonathan’s eligibility to contest having been sworn-in as president twice.
Minister of aviation and aerospace, Festus Keyamo, said PDP risks serious setbacks should it field Mr Jonathan in the election, citing recent constitutional constraint.
“The constitutional amendment was made AFTER the court judgment which cleared him (Jonathan) to run in 2015, so nothing is decided yet on that new amendment, hence I use the word ‘RISK’ advisedly. All the arguments as to whether the section can be interpreted to affect him will not be decided on Social Media, but at the Supreme Court, Mr Keyamo said.
