Kano NNPP lawmakers deny plans defection to APC

Kano Lawmakers on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives have denied rumours that they plan to leave their party for other political platforms.

The 13 lawmakers, who are members of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State, said they remain loyal to the NNPP and its leadership.

They made this clear during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, led by Hon. Garba Diso.

Their statement came after two NNPP lawmakers from Kano; Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the House plenary.

Diso, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, said reports that the Kwankwasiya lawmakers were planning to dump the NNPP were false and malicious.

“We wish to categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the general public, our supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims,” he said.

He added that those spreading the rumours were political detractors who are threatened by the growing influence, unity, and resilience of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family, particularly in Kano State and across Nigeria.

According to him, the lawmakers’ engagements with members of other parties should not be seen as betrayal.

“Our interactions with members of other political parties should not be misconstrued as disloyalty or an indication of defection. Rather, it reflects our commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at advancing good governance, national unity, and progress for all Nigerians,” he said.

Diso reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s ideals.

“We remain steadfast in our allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance. No amount of misinformation or propaganda will shake our faith in the movement or in the leadership,” he said.

He pledged continued dedication to serving NNPP and the people of Kano state.

“We stand firm, united, and loyal to the NNPP, to the Kwankwasiya Movement, and to the people we serve,” he stated.
