The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has clarified that Mathematics is no longer compulsory for admission into certain non-science university programmes across Nigeria.

Education authorities explained that the policy adjustment applies mainly to humanities, arts and some social science courses where Mathematics may not be directly relevant.

The clarification followed widespread confusion among students, parents and school administrators after earlier reports suggested a broader removal of Mathematics requirements.

JAMB officials stressed that core science, engineering and technology programmes would still require strong Mathematics qualifications.

Education stakeholders say the change could reduce admission barriers for many students while encouraging more flexible academic pathways within tertiary institutions.
