Fresh operations launched after renewed attacks across northern Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has convened an emergency security meeting with the nation’s top military and intelligence commanders following renewed attacks by armed criminal groups across several parts of northern Nigeria.
The high-level meeting focused on strengthening ongoing counter-terrorism operations, improving intelligence coordination and accelerating rescue efforts for kidnapped victims.
Military authorities have since announced fresh operations targeting criminal hideouts in Borno and Katsina States, where troops reportedly intercepted suspected foreign fighters attempting to reinforce terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
Security officials say improved surveillance and cross-border intelligence sharing remain central to current operations aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics and financing.
Meanwhile, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reiterated his administration’s position against negotiating ransom payments to kidnappers, arguing that such payments only strengthen criminal networks.
Security experts note that Nigeria’s security challenge increasingly requires a combination of military operations, intelligence gathering, border management and community cooperation.
Persistent insecurity continues to affect agriculture, education, investment and national economic growth.
