The Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Cross River State, Nigeria, Comrade Asu Okang has said that the patience, quietness and civility of Governor Ayade should never be taken for granted by any group or political party.

Comrade Okang said this in response to Governor Nyesom Wike television broadcast where he sarcastically referred to the Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade as a loyal boy of President Muhammadu Buhari and describing him (Prof Ayade) as “a small boy licking the boot of President Muhammadu Buhari to curry favours.”

In the said national television broadcast and Media Briefing on Rivers State progress report on the rampaging Corona Virus pandemic which was broadcast live on AIT and several online Media as well as Radio and Television Stations, Governor Wike had tongue-lashed Ayade and the federal government which had advised him to collect Rivers state share of the rice for palliatives in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic, from the Nigerian customs warehouse in Calabar.

Comrade Asu Okang said, “The State Government frowns at this unnecessary vituperation by a brother Governor from the same geo-political zone and political party. It should be made crystal clear here that Governor Wike need not make reference to Governor Ayade and Cross River State in such a disparaging manner, but should have gone ahead to state his case and grievances against the APC- controlled Federal Government in Abuja”.

He noted that Governor Ayade is a highly revered Gentleman with sound character and high pedigree and of exceptional moral standing who has long understood the difference between party politics and governance. “Elections we know, are long gone and it is now time for good governance for the overall interest of the citizenry”. Asu added.

He further stated that Governor Ayade’s enviable relationship with the President at the centre should not be misconstrued as a weakness or a lazy approach to governance that should now earn him the tag “Loyal boy”.

“The governor will not be intimidated”, adding that “his patience, quietness and civility should never be taken for granted by Governor Wike or any other group or political party”, the Commissioner expressed.

He further explained that Cross River and Rivers States have come a long way as brothers and whatever differences their Leaders may have in approach to governance should be canvassed at their appropriate high level meetings and not discussed in the public domain such as a live Media Programme.
