A/Ibom Guber Poll: Akpabio, Enang End Feud, Strategise For APC Victory
  • March 16, 2023
  • Unity Times

With barely 48hours to the crucial governorship election, former governor and senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North West, Chief Godswill Akpabio and the immediate past senior special assistant (SSA) to president on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, have sheathe their sword and agreed to work towards delivering the oil-rich state to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.

Enang had been engaged in a tussle for the soul of the APC with Akpabio and the choice of Obong Akanimo Udofia, as the party’s governorship flag-bearer.

He had insisted that Udofia’s sudden enrolment as a member of APC soon after quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest and win the governorship ticket, was a violation of the party’s constitution.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed the ensuing case for lacking in merit on the ground that only the party can determine who flies its flag at the polls.

And Enang, who was subsequently expelled from the party, according to the state chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, for creating internal wrangling, retraced his steps and resolved to work for the success of the APC at the polls on Saturday.

Enang disclosed this yesterday when he received Akpabio at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, the state capital, upon his arrival from Abuja, where he received his certificate of return (CoR), as Senator-elect for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district.

According to Enang, it was time to bury the feud and rally round the APC and Udofia in order to end the 24-year reign of the PDP administration in the state.

An elated Akpabio, commended Enang, for his decision and said the interest of the party should be above personal and every other thing and urged Enang, to be in the vanguard of taking Akwa Ibom to the centre by ensuring APC gets the maximum votes to displace the ruling PDP.

“Akwa Ibom must be connected to the centre and the APC is the way to go with Akan Udofia,” Akpabio said.
