Yobe Guber: PDP Rejects Election Result
  • March 22, 2023
  • Unity Times

Yobe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected result of the gubernatorial election held last Saturday in which the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives congress (APC) Hon Mai Mala Buni was declared winner with 317,113 votes.

The rejection was announced at a news conference organised by the governorship candidate of the PDP, Hon Shariff Abdullahi in Damaturu, the state capital.

He commended the people of the state for having the resilience and patience to cast their votes and especially his teeming supporters for their loyalty and dedication to the PDP in this trying period.

Abdullahi said the election was characterised by intimidation of the electorates, open and brazen vote-buying, inducement and all manner of behaviours alien to all known democratic principles by agents of the state government and with the complicity of the security agents.

According to him, based on results collected from the party agents and those from the IReV portal, the party opposes the outcome of the elections in its entirety.

He added that, ” This no doubt present a darker and disturbing picture of how our security operatives sacrifice the very core tenet of their mandate.”

Shariff urged members of the party to remain peaceful and calm as they study and review the results before taking appropriate actions.

The leadership of the party commended the electoral umpire for their improvement compared to the last election, especially in the electronic transmission of results as prescribed in the electoral act, adding that this restored some confidence and deepened democratic values.
